The Little Porker!

The kids on my side of the family are notorious for being skinny little babies -- with a couple of exceptions! -- and then all of a sudden they turn into these little dumplings. It seems that Gabby is no different.

A couple of months ago, her pediatrician was really concerned about her weight. She was supposed to be gaining one ounce a day, but was really gaining about 3 ounces a week or so. When she turned 4 months, we started feeding her solid food, and started her on a brand called Earth's Best, which is an organic brand. She has eaten sweet potatoes, carrots, peas, and bananas so far. In the 2 1/2 weeks since we started her on solids, she has gained almost two pounds!! To be exact, she's gained 29 ounces in the 19 days since her last checkup.

Her pediatrician had made us see a gastroenterological specialist to rule out any problem. We saw a very sweet LPN this morning who was absolutely flummoxed to find anything wrong with this child who was talking and laughing with her this morning. If we had gone a couple of weeks ago, she might have been more concerned, but the little porker gained so much weight in such a short time that she just told us to bring Gabby back only if she slows down again! We're very happy at that!

Photos!

I finally got around to taking photos off of my camera. Some of these are more than 2 months old, but the bottom line is this: Gabby is still cute and loves to be the naked baby. And she loves her food, which makes her a true Gordon. The only problem with this is the attitude that she takes with it (I know, surprise surprise, a child of mine has an attitude!): the bottle or the food has to be a little warmer than room temperature or else she will not eat it. Here are our attempts at cereal feeding:

A couple of days later she succeeded in grabbing the spoon from me and unerringly got it into her mouth. Is a 4-month old supposed to have such fine motor skills?? She also loves to blow raspberries with the food in her mouth.

Here's the naked baby at play:This one was taken on Mother's Day. She really digs Uncle Ryan, probably because he's just a big kid himself:

Daddy and Gabby. Apparently they had a really rough day:
And she's all ready to get moving. Forget crawling; this kid is going to head straight to the races:

I Want My Mommmeeeeee!

This weekend was a trial since Gabby was not sleeping well at all. I had a four-day weekend, so on Thursday we ran around and did stuff, then on the 4th did absolutely nothing. But every night she would wake up in the middle of the night crying and refusing to be calmed down. So Bill would pick her up and bring her to our bed, but she would wail the whole way over. She would only stop when she got into the bed with us and would promptly snuggle up to me and pass right out.

Unfortunately, she's also not a quiet sleeper and kicks constantly. The only problem with this is that she is the perfect length of my torso at the moment which means that her feet make exact contact with the c-section scar, which is still tender. OUCH! I also don't sleep properly with her in the bed, not wanting to inadvertently roll over and squish the poor pumpkin. She never snuggles up to Daddy in bed, only to Mommy. She also spent the whole weekend wanting only me! I guess we're getting to that particular stage. I'm going to cherish this because in about 15 years or so she'll want nothing to do with me.

Anyway, here's a recent photo. My friend Mary sent Gabby this Evenflo Exersaucer as a gift right after she was born and I put it together a couple of weeks ago. It's like crack for babies!! Then Bill put batteries into all of the little parts that require them and she will really only leave it to eat and sleep. We've created a monster!
